Digital Video

Red House students have finished programming simple computer games in Microworlds, the lastest being and interactive golf game. Next they created a database using Bento and now are on to making digital videos using iMovie. The first video project was a self-reflection about what their education means to their future. They are currently working on Internet Safety videos with the goal of entering a nation wide contest with big prizes. See here

Welcome Red House students

The Red House students have been doing a great job in the first few weeks of computer class. They’ve created a slide show about themselves using the presentation software Keynote, created a menu for a fictitious restaurant using the word processor Pages and explored formulas, charts and graphs using the spreadsheet Numbers. Recently they’ve started to experiment with the Logo programming language to program the computer to draw geometric shapes in MicroWorlds.

Counting Pennies

Green House students have been working on organizing all the pennies that have been collected from all over the community. Here they are rolling pennies before depositing them at the bank. Final totals from the Pennies for Peace campaign will be announced next week.

Green House students improve typing skills

Congratulations to Green House students who improved their average typing words per minute from 16.6 to 29.5 during the last semester - a 77% increase! They achieved it by practicing just 5 to 10 minutes at the beginning of each computer class period.

Pennies for Peace campaign

This week the Green House is kicking off our Pennies for Peace campaign. Pennies for Peace is part of the Central Asia Institute founded by Three Cups of Tea author Greg Mortenson. Its mission is to fight terrorism through education by building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Green House students have volenteered to place collection jars at local Bath businesses. In computer class students are creating public service announcements using digital video cameras, iMovie and GarageBand. Look for their announcements in the coming weeks on Bath public access television.

How have laptops affected your learning?

Hello 7th and 8th graders at BMS. I’d like to get your feedback on the new laptops we have this year. Do you think they help you with your school work? Do they make you a better student? Are your classes more interesting when the laptops are used? Let me know what you think. The state has spent a lot of money to give us these machines and I want to know what you think of them.
